[APRIL SHOWERS] Bring Testicular Cancer Awareness Month

Image

We are months away still from Movember, the movement to raise awareness about men’s health issues, namely prostate and testicular initiatives. But April is upon us, which is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. While testicular cancer is relatively rare (a man’s lifetime chance of getting it is about 1 in 270), it still is the leading cancer in men ages 15-35. The median age at diagnosis for testicular cancer is 33, which is often not an age at which young men are thinking about cancer- its prevention or diagnosis. But the good news is that with increased awareness men can take important preventive steps. Monthly self-exams are effective in the detection of testicular cancer; when this form of cancer is detected and treated early, it can usually be cured.
