[TAKE ACTION] Urge your Representative to Support the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program

Urgent Action!    Urgent Action!    Urgent Action!

Urge your Representative to Support the
DOD Breast Cancer Research Program

As of today, 110 Representatives have signed the letter in support of level funding for the Department of Defense (DOD) peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP). There’s still time to get more signers since the deadline for signing is Monday, April 15th.

We need you to continue your efforts to contact your Representatives and urge them to show their support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter. If your Member’s name is not on our latest listing, contact her/him with the following message:

I urge you to show your support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter to Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Young and Ranking Member Visclosky calling for $120 million—level funding—for the DOD peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program for FY 2014.

Background:  In order to maintain funding for the DOD BCRP, money must be appropriated by Congress.  The first step in this process is for the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee to appropriate funding.  Representatives Hastings (D-FL), King (R-NY), McGovern (D-MA), and Gerlach (R-PA) are circulating a Dear Colleague Letter, asking House Members to sign a letter to the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee leadership, supporting level funding for the DOD BCRP.

The action you are taking will let your Representatives know how important the DOD BCRP is to breast cancer research. If a Representative has questions you can’t answer, let us know and we’ll follow-up.

If your Representative agrees to sign the letter, her/his staff should email one of the following staffers of the letter sponsors to make it happen:

Jennifer Walters in Rep. Jim McGovern’s office
Lauryn Schothorst in Rep. Jim Gerlach’s office

Email us at NBCC and let us know that your Representative has agreed to sign the letter or if you have any questions.

There’s not much time left so please act today! Many thanks.
